Let Justice Prevail

This service has been prepared by women of Malaysia for Women’s World Day of Prayer.

Malaysia is a country of contrasts at many levels – its modern cities and widespread use of technology provide a contrast to the remote areas where people follow a traditional way of life. It is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country where the official religion is Islam, with a Christian minority of only 8%, so the writers of the service were very mindful of their complex and sensitive background. As the content of the service is in itself very substantial and also visual, we have no invited speaker this year, but we are delighted that the Wheatley URC minister, Tanya Rasmussen, will be leading us.

There will be refreshments afterwards and an opportunity to look at displays and learn more about the country.

Women’s World Day of Prayer is a global, ecumenical movement of informed prayer and prayerful action, organised and led by Christian women who call the faithful together on the first Friday in March each year to observe a common day of prayer and who, in many countries, have a continuing relationship in prayer and service. Read more about WWDP…

Come to the afternoon service at the URC and stay for The Big Brew in aid of Fairtrade or come to the evening service in St Mary’s.

This is the first time we have been able to offer an evening service to make this service available to those who cannot come to a weekday service during the day through work or other commitments.

Further Faith Connections: Exploring Christian Denominations

26th Feb – 1 April

4pm in the URC

A series of public talks on Sunday afternoons leading up to Easter in which we hope to come to a deeper understanding and mutual respect for each other as we learn both what we hold in common, and where we differ and why, as diverse members of the one Body of Christ.

Each speaker will give an overview of their denomination and its unique history, traditions, practices, key historical figures, and theological positions that may distinguish it from other Christian denominations. Following their presentation, there will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.

We hope that individuals will feel encouraged and challenged to become more articulate about what and why they personally believe as a result of participating in this series — and that we will all have an opportunity to practise talking about these issues in constructive ways.
